For those of you who don’t know, WordPress is a website script that turns your website into a “blogging” type of website. Once you have it installed onto your website it will completely change the way you look at your website. WordPress allows you to do many things with its simple user interface and simple admin panel. You can post a new article, install themes, install plugins, and do many more things. But before you do all that, first of all you need to install wordpress.
If you don’t want to pay for a domain name and hosting then this is how you download WordPress onto your website:
Step 1-Go to wordpress.com
Step 2-Register an account on there and they’ll give you your own sub domain (exp: octogfx.wordpress.com)
Step 3-Now your wordpress account is set and your website is hosted by wordpress.com, you still have the option of using a service like .co.nr or .tk to make a redirection of your website, so you can still have a domain name like octogfx.tk and make that redirect to octogfx.wordpress.com
Step 4-Now you want to go to your website, sign in the go to your admin area and now you can edit all the information and post new bulletins and stuff from there. If your having trouble finding your admin area type in your website url then look to the right in the sidebar and then look for the words “Site Admin”. Click there and you should be set ;]
If you have a self hosted website (that means you actually pay for a domain name and hosting) then this is how you download WordPress onto it:
Step 1-Go to wordpress.com and register for an account. When registering make to check to only give you the username and not the sub domain to the site because you will not be needing this.
Step 2-Go to wordpress.org and download the newest wordpress application out.
Step 3-Then extract it with winrar to a reliable place.
Step 4-Download a free FTP software like Core FTP Lite
Step 5-Open Core FTP Lite, click on Site, then click on Site Manager and put in all of your FTP information (you should’ve gotten all this info when buying your domain name and hosting)
Step 6-You should see your site on the right side after you put in all your FTP information and clicked connect, so now click on public_html and click and drag the extracted wordpress application into your website and wait for it to upload
Step 7-You should now have wordpress installed onto your website
Step 8-Make sure that your previous index.html file is deleted and not there anymore because it will block your wordpress website from getting through to being the homepage.
Step 9-Now you want to go to your website, sign in the go to your admin area and now you can edit all the information and post new bulletins and stuff from there. If your having trouble finding your admin area type in your website url then look to the right in the sidebar and then look for the words “Site Admin”. Click there and you should be set ;]
Hope that helped you guys out, and I hope everything works out.
