The Starfish Story
One day an elderly man was walking on the sea shore and just enjoying the view. The sun was shining, the water was cool, and the day was calm. The elderly man keeps walking and comes across a rather strange site. He see’s what looks like a young man performing a strange dance. He walks towards the young man to see what is going on, and he see’s that the young man isnt dancing at all, in one graceful motion he was picking up objects on the beach and tossing them into the sea. As the elderly man draws nearer to the young man he see’s that the objects are starfish. “Why in the world are you throwing starfish into the water?” said the elderly man. “If the starfish stay on the beach, when the tide goes out and the sun raises higher, the starfish will die” replied the young man as he continued tossing them into the sea. The elderly man then said “thats ridiculous! Theres thousands of miles of sea and millions of starfish. You cant possibly believe that what you are doing can make any difference.” The young man then picks up another starfish, and as he is tossing it into the waves replies “It makes a difference to this one.”
