Today were going to be taking a look at making a clean and simple outer space text design. The design will look something like the image above when we are done. So lets get started!
Step 1:
Needless to say, to create this “outer space” design, you will need an image of outer space. I recommend the image below. Click on the image to view it in its full size. Then right click on it, click “save as” and save it to your computer.

Step 2:
Once you have that image on your computer, open up photoshop, and open up the picture of outer space.

Step 3:
Next open a new file by click on File>New. Make the file 1280 by 720.

Step 4:
Choose the text tool, choose your favorite font (preferably a thick font), and type in your text. I’m using the Impact font at 305pt.

Step 5:
Double click on the text layer to enter the “Layer Styles” menu. Once in the “Layer Styles” menu, click on outer glow, and apply the settings in the picture below.
*Please Note: The settings below are only accurate if you followed the exact same sizes for the image and font that I stated in this tutorial. If you chose your own sized image and/or font, then change the settings to match your liking.

Step 6:
Next, click and drag the outer space image into the text image. Make sure it’s on top of the text layer, and change the layer style of the outer space image to screen.
Step 7:
If you are satisfied with the image above then feel free to keep it like that, but you should know that if you change the background color to anything else besides white, the rest of the outer space image will show. So if your background is going to be something besides white, you need to create a clipping mask. Make sure that the outer space image layer is directly above the text layer. Right click on the outer space image layer and click on create clipping mask. This will make it so the outer space image layer only effects the text, but it will change the look on the text a little because the outer glow will show.
Here’s the clipping mask image:

And here is our final result using the clipping mask:

This is what would’ve happened if you chose to put another color behind the text without the clipping mask:

And this is with the clipping mask:

Congratulations! Your done with the “Outer Space Text Effect”! At this point just mess with the placement of the image, and the settings of the text until you get your desired effect. Click on the image below to see my final result.
